Gods of Dust

Deep within the steaming past
godseed first appeared
and walked upright
lived within the breast of earth
conciding
symbiotic
feeding only to survive
the earth providing
sweet mothers milk
nourishing lifegiving
asking nothing in return

for four million years

then seed fell haplessly from hand
and reaping what was sown
mankind's greed emerged from man
and plow first was put to land
and mankind ate of the tree of life
the bitter stinking fruit that gives
the power of the gods
to decide who dies and lives
to beings so inadequate as we

lustful vengeance wreak we now
upon the Mother's trembling breast
and in our blood-toothed quest
for god-hood
we rend asunder that which held us
we poison and we tear her
and in the forty centuries
since mankind first sowed the seed
and slit the throat of evolution
in his epic convolution
spilling out the blood of god
to nourish crops and feed the mob
we have become a slime of lust
madding on this speck of dust

and never-saited hollow eyes
turn we now upon the skies
seeking there new ways to breed
another place to sow the seed

and in our awesome degredation
we sing out fervent with elation

...at the gods we have become.
