Fallen Angel by David Blessum

  **Neon Angel**

Broad avenues of crepe myrtle and live oak
spanish moss trailing in a warm southern breeze
paints shadows of rainslicked new york streets
where neon angels wander buried rainbows
in search of a spoonful of dreams.

Fly, neon angel, fly
Spread your wings in the new york rain
Weave your words within your pain
Sing your songs and fly away
Neon angel, find the day

Slow silver moonrise over cypress trees
Somewhere a lonely saxophone
weeps crystal tears that spread out
in ripples of a new york angel's voice
drifting over basins and bayous.

Sing, neon angel, sing
Sing out loud, and sing out long
Give the world your new york song
Lift your voice and fly away
Neon angel, find the day

Warm southern evening brings
fireflies and heat lightening
that reflect an angel's pain as he
shivers on a sweat-soaked mattress
or wanders in the new york rain

Live, neon angel, live
Ride the tide on through the pain
Hold your own life once again
Take my hand and fly away
Neon angel, find the day.
